I’ve talked about the concept of a Tortoise Enclosure before – your little creative happy place, where everything is just so, and conditions are perfect for you to do whatever it is you do. My Tortoise Enclosure, my office, was OK. It wasn’t great, but it did the job. Yes, the desk was a little wobbly and not big enough for everything I had on it, but I made it work.
There comes a time when you must recognize that you can’t keep doing what you’re doing – it’s just not working as well as it should. For a person with a rabbit-like attention span, like myself, my work environment was getting to the point where I couldn’t keep focused on anything for very long, regardless of how much I wanted to. So, say hello to my New! And Improved! Tortoise Enclosure. An L-shaped desk gives me more room to work. The platform on top of the desk converts it to a standing desk. I use a similar set-up on my desk at the day job. It keeps me focused, staves off boredom, and helps better regulate standing vs. sitting time. We sit entirely too much these days, so having the option to stand without breaking your productivity stride is nice.
In other news, I’ve decided to delay the publication of my next ebook by one week. The next book, Exotica, keeps getting bigger. What started as a short story has grown into a full-fledged novella. I hope you think it’s worth the wait. In the meantime, here’s the cover to get your imagination firing.
